A birthday Cookie

Cookie Cuccurullo with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1944

Happy birthday to Cookie Cuccurullo, who if he were still with us would be 107 years old today.

Arthur Cuccurullo – one of only four “Cookies” among the 23,370 players to reach the major leagues – pitches on City Island for the Harrisburg Senators in 1942. He wins 13 games that season in the Class B Interstate League before reaching the majors in 1943 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He spends parts of three seasons in the majors before returning to the minors.

Oh, the three other Cookies in the majors?

They are infielders Harry “Cookie” Lavagetto and Octavio “Cookie” Rojas; and pitcher Carlos “Cookie” Carrasco.
