A “Broadway” debut

Today marks what would have been the 111th birthday for “Broadway” Charlie Wagner, the pride of Reading, Pa.

The longtime Boston Red Sox pitcher, farm director, coach and scout – seen here with onetime roommate and longtime friend Ted Williams – starts his pro career with the Red Sox in 1935.

His work for the Red Sox ends the day he passes away in 2006 at the age of 93 – at the ballpark in Reading, of course, scouting yet another game for Boston.
