A Young moment with the Mets
Chris Young faces Cole Hamels 14 years ago today
Fourteen years ago today, Chris Young becomes the first pitcher in the New York Mets’ first 50 seasons to get two hits in one inning.
Both of his hits are singles and come off the Phillies’ Cole Hamels in the third inning of the Mets’ 7-1 victory before a Tuesday night crowd of 45,365 at Philadelphia.
Young’s first hit starts the Mets’ top half of the third, his second hit chases Hamels from the game with two outs in the inning.
Young finishes the game 3-for-3 and his only victory during an injury-marred 2011 season.
Today, Young is the general manager of the Texas Rangers and the architect behind the Rangers’ 2023 World Series winner.
