El Duque’s beginning … and end
Orlando Hernandez, whose pitching career ends on Harrisburg's City Island in 2010, signs his first pro contract 27 years ago today – a four-year, $6.6 million deal with the New York Yankees.
The Cuban defector earns another $28 million during a major league career that ends in 2007.
His final games, though, come in 2010 with Class AA Harrisburg, where he goes 1-1 with a 1.86 ERA in six appearances for the Senators.
Hernandez, then 44, abruptly leaves the playoff-bound Senators before boarding the team bus for a late-season trip from Harrisburg to New Hampshire.
