First of the new millennium

When Luis Garcia, all of 20 years old, homers for the Washington Nationals in their 7-6 loss three years ago tonight at Atlanta, he becomes the first player born in the 21st century to homer in a major league game.

The third-inning homer off Touki Toussaint comes in only the third major league game for Garcia, whose moment was captured by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The summer before, in 2019, Garcia homers only four times in 129 games in the Nationals’ Class AA team in Harrisburg.
