Harping on a call

The enormously talented but sometimes quick-tempered Bryce Harper earns his first ejection in Class AA 12 years ago today.

The outfielder, then 18 and playing for Harrisburg, spikes his helmet after being called out on strikes by plate umpire Max Guyll in the seventh inning of the Senators’ 3-1 loss to Richmond on City Island. The moment is captured here by the incomparable Chris Knight.

Replays show the pitch from Richmond’s Eric Surkamp is outside.

Videos of Harper’s meltdown quickly go viral on the Internet at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwWU5C7-g5s
