Mr. September

Reggie Jackson, then of the Kansas City Athletics, hits the first home run of his Hall of Fame career 57 years ago today off California left-hander Jim Weaver during a 3-2 loss to the Angels before a Sunday afternoon crowd of 10,993 in Anaheim.

Exactly 17 years to the day later in 1984, Jackson, then playing with the Angels, hits his 500th career homer off another left-hander, Kansas City’s Bud Black, in a 10-1 loss to the Royals before a Monday night crowd of 28,862 in Anaheim.

Jackson finishes his career with 563 homers with only one each coming off Weaver and Black.
