One last time for the Say Hey Kid

Willie Mays hits the 660th and final home run of his Hall of Fame career 50 years ago today at New York’s Shea Stadium.

Mays, playing with the Mets in his final season, hits his last homer off Cincinnati left-hander Don Gullett, a fourth-inning drive to right-center that gives the Mets a 1-0 lead in a game the Reds eventually win 2-1 in 10 innings.

The homer is the second of two that Mays – seen here in an Associated Press photo – hits in his career off the hard-throwing Gullett.
