Shane Andrews becomes the first major league player to homer in an Opening Day game played outside North America 24 years ago today as the Chicago Cubs beat the New York Mets 5-3 in Tokyo.

Seven years earlier, Andrews is the slick-fielding, power-hitting third baseman on a 1993 Harrisburg Senators team that wins 100 games in the Class AA Eastern League between the regular season and postseason en route to being named by Baseball America as one of the greatest teams in the history of the minors.

As for Andrews, he spends seven seasons in the majors with the Expos, Cubs and Red Sox, finishing 86 homers in 569 games.
