John Tener, a pitcher with Chicago and Pittsburgh from 1888-90, wins the Republican nomination for governor of Pennsylvania 114 years ago today.

Tener, a native of County Tyrone in Ireland who wins the general election in the fall of 1910, serves one term as Pennsylvania’s governor.

At the same time, he also serves as the National League’s president, a gig that lasts from 1913-18.
