Taking flight
The Brooklyn Dodgers become the first major league team to purchase their own plane 67 years ago today as they spend $775,000 for a 44-seat, twin-engine prop job.
The team does a nice job, too, painting the plane in 1957 to read "Brooklyn Dodgers" along the fuselage.
A year later, the team repaints the plane to read “Los Angeles Dodgers” as it literally flies off into the sunset and out west to a more profitable future in southern California.
