The meeting before the ban

Today marks the 35th anniversary of Pete Rose meeting with Commissioner Peter Ueberroth and Commissioner-elect Bart Giamatti to discuss Rose’s gambling problem.

The iconic-to-some, loathed-by-others Rose, then the Cincinnati Reds' manager, denies having any such problem – namely betting on baseball.

Evidence shows otherwise and Rose soon is banned from the game, a suspension that remains in effect today.
