The passing of Jimmy Sebring
Jimmy Sebring, the former Bucknell University outfielder who with the Pittsburgh Pirates hits the first home run in World Series history, passes away 115 years ago today in Williamsport.
Sebring’s historic homer comes off Cy Young – yes, that Cy Young – in the first game of the first World Series game ever played on Oct. 1, 1903 in Boston.
Sebring is only 27 in 1909 when he dies, a victim of kidney disease.
