Oh, this is going to leave a mark

Baseball's injury of the year for 2013 actually takes place in spring training, where 11 years ago today Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus takes himself out of the lineup before an exhibition game due to excessive “sensitivity and muscle soreness” in his left shoulder.

Elvis Andrus

Seems the 24-year-old Andrus has a bad reaction after getting an oversized tattoo of his late father with the artwork running from the top of the shoulder to just above his elbow.

“It’s on fire right now,” Andrus says 11 years ago today while slathering his left shoulder in moisturizers.

Andrus says the tattoo takes nine hours over two days to complete.

Really, you cannot make up this stuff.

“It’s a memory of my dad,” Andrus tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’m really proud that it’s going to be on myself forever.”

So, too, will the story of why he needs to sit out a spring training game.
