You don’t see this every day
After batting only .255 in 1959 – hey, give him a break; he is 38 years old at the time – Hall of Famer Stan Musial tells the St. Louis Cardinals 64 years ago today that his salary should be cut from $100,000 to $80,000.
Now, how many players today would voluntarily take a 20-percent pay cut after a less-than-stellar season?
Um, that would be, well, no one.
Exactly nine years to the day later, Musial is elected, along with Roy Campanella, to the Hall of Fame.
