A ‘Broadway’ debut

Ted Williams, left, and Charlie Wagner in 1942

Today marks what would have been the 112th birthday for “Broadway” Charlie Wagner, the pride of Reading, Pa.

The longtime Boston Red Sox pitcher, farm director, coach and scout – seen here with onetime roommate, longtime friend and Hall of Famer Ted Williams – starts his pro career with the Red Sox in 1935.

His work for the Red Sox ends the day he passes away in 2006 at the age of 93 – at the ballpark in Reading, of course, scouting yet another game for Boston.
