Becoming an Angel
Future Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero formally leaves the Montreal Expos 20 years ago today and signs as a free agent with the Los Angeles Angels.
After eight seasons with the Expos, Guerrero spends six seasons with the Angels and promptly wins the American League Most Valuable Player Award there in 2004.
Overall, Guerrero hits .319 in 846 games for the Angels with 173 homers and 616 runs batted in before moving on in 2010 to the Texas Rangers and in 2011 for a final season with the Baltimore Orioles.
His career totals include a .318 batting average in 2,147 games with 449 home runs and 1,496 runs batted in.
Guerrero falls short in his first ballot for the Hall of Fame, receiving 71.7 percent of the vote in 2017 before the voting writers quickly come to their senses in 2018 and easily elect Guerrero with 92.9 percent of the vote.
