Marrying Marilyn

Today marks what would have been the 70th wedding anniversary of Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe.

Quite the powerful pairing of the buttoned-down baseball icon and the publicly vivacious actress.

Alas, those star-crossed lovers see their marriage end only nine months after it begins on this day in 1954.

“I don’t know if it’s good for baseball,” former Yankees teammate Yogi Berra says at the time of the wedding, “but it sure beats the hell out of rooming with Phil Rizzuto.”
