Family affair

Wilton, left, and Vladimir Guerrero

Today marks the 26th anniversary of Vladimir and Wilton Guerrero becoming the first brothers to play together in a game for the Montreal Expos.

Vladimir, the younger and more talented of the brothers on his way to the Hall of Fame, combines with Wilton for four of the Expos’ six hits in their first game together during a 4-1 loss to San Diego at Stade Olympique.

They also account for the Expos' only run as Vladimir's first-inning single up the middle scores Wilton from second base for a 1-0 lead before a Sunday afternoon crowd of 14,485 in Montreal.

The seven-player trade bringing Wilton Guerrero to the Expos two days earlier includes onetime Expos All-Stars in shortstop Mark Grudzielanek and pitcher Carlos Perez, along with prospect Hiram Bocachica, heading to Los Angeles with three prospects – pitcher Ted Lilly, outfielder Peter Bergeron and first baseman Jon Tucker – going to Montreal
