After batting .333 for Class AA Harrisburg and being named the Eastern League's MVP in 1991, natural born hitter Matt Stairs begins a 19-year career in the majors for 13 different teams.

Fourteen years ago today, as a pinch-hitter for San Diego, Stairs appears for his 12th different team, breaking the 98-year-old record for most teams played for by a position player.

The previous record belongs to Deacon McGuire.

Stairs then plays in 2011 for the Washington Nationals – his 13th and final team – before retiring in midseason with a major league-record 23 homers as a pinch-hitter.
