The flood waters of Cincinnati
Consider the plight of the Reds’ old Crosley Field, where 87 years ago today the worst flood in Cincinnati history covers home plate under 21 feet of water.
That, however, does not deter Reds pitcher Lee Grissom from taking a row boat over the center field wall and into the ballpark with the team's groundskeeper, Matty Schwab, as his passenger.
In case you are wondering, yes, they are rowing near the top of the lower grandstand.
Miraculously, the Reds open the 1937 season on time less than three months later at Crosley, losing to Dizzy Dean and the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 before a capacity crowd of 34,374.
