The signing of Vlad Jr.

Nineteen years after reaching the major leagues with Montreal and beginning his Hall of Fame career, longtime All-Star outfielder Vladimir Guerrero watches nine years ago today as his 16-year-old son – Vlad Jr. – signs a free agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Son of Vlad, who like Dad is a right-handed power hitter from the Dominican Republic, reportedly signs with Toronto for $3.9 million.

The cost of acquiring international free agents clearly skyrockets since Dear Old Dad’s days as the Blue Jays’ signing of Junior comes 22 years after the Montreal Expos recruit Vlad Sr. in 1993 for reportedly only $3,500 and a new pair of spikes.
